Tech

I normally work at the intersection of computers and people. That could mean:

  • computer programming an app or website (the "front-end" of the pantomime horse)
  • making tech products more user friendly through actually talking to users
  • explaining technology and collaborating with business people (and whoever else needs in)
  • demoing technology to customers
  • hosting tech conferences
  • or any number of other things...

I wear many tech hats. I call myself a tech geek for hire, tech start-up jack-of-all-trades dogsbody, IT consultant, app & web developer, software engineer, human-centred computing consultant, and occasional tech event host.

On graduation I picked up my masters degree in Human-Centred Computer Systems from Richard Attenborough who was the honorary chancellor of University of Sussex at the time.

Since then I've worked for start-ups, digital agencies, and universities. Plus a few brands you've probably heard of like American Express, DK, (who loved an Oxford comma) and Penguin Books.

"The Mythical Man Month" by Frederick P. Brooks, Jr, is a book I'd recommend on software engineering. Chapter one "The Tar Pit" was my first seminar reading for my BSc in Computer Science degree at University of Exeter:

The book is just as relevant today as it was then, if not more so. Lessons from 1970's IBM technology projects - mistakes that people are still making today. Meanwhile the book sits dusty on library bookshelves not being read. 😅

"The Tar Pit" - chapter one of "The Mythical Man Month" by Frederick P. Brooks, Jr (1975)

To correct this I'm offering a free copy of "The Mythical Man Month" book for anyone interested in working with me.

Just send me an email or WhatsApp message.
